Mark Bowman – Sculptor

Mark Bowman is a sculptor based in rural Northumberland whose award-winning work is produced in a diverse pallet of materials. A fascination for the natural environment, a constant preoccupation with sculptural form and his passion for working with a wide variety of materials, have all had a considerable influence on Marks creative work and have been the driving force behind his diverse experimentation.

In his early years working in construction management, Mark spent his spare time teaching himself to carve stone and wood and a year working in an artist blacksmiths forge added to his interest in form.

A separate eight-year period working on offshore oilrigs saw the “other worldly” environment of massive steel structure and extreme natural forces, further contributed to his eclectic mix of influences.

Mark strives to reproduce the sculpting effects of nature in his work, usually resulting in very organic forms. His belief that “the form of a thing is the result of all it endures”, has helped to develop his understanding of the natural qualities of the mediums he uses.

Mark’s work can be found in private collections in Italy, Australia, Saudi Arabia, North America and the UK.
