Sustainable Turned Wood

After a career in aviation I took up wood turning as a hobby. Friends and relations liked what I was doing and so I decided to take the next step and set up a small business, thereby reaching a wider audience with my creations.

I use mainly British hardwoods from sustainable sources and most of my wood comes from Northumberland and the surrounding counties although some comes from Lincolnshire where I have strong ties. My inspiration comes from the wood and what I see around me and I allow my ideas to change as the wood reveals its contents. Where the grain is significant I let the wood do the talking and where it is less so I use various painting, waxing, gilding and texturing techniques to enhance the wood. I do try to make items that are practical as well as decorative and use food safe finishes when I feel they are necessary.

For the most part I am self taught and work from my home workshop.
