Dusk at the National Galleries - Kate Bentley RI RSW SWA
One of our best-selling artists, Kate Bentley RI RSW SWA, is currently showing her stunning fresh paintings in a solo exhibition at Morningside Gallery in Edinburgh. So, as a massive fan and without further ado, I jumped on a train to the big city to find out more! Dexter dog was to accompany me on this adventure of course.

First stop on arrival in Edinburgh, was to climb Carlton Hill to enjoy the panoramic view from the top. Huge Victorian monuments adorn this hill but more eye-catching for me was the view- which was staggering.
The city was bathed in sunshine; a mixture of architecture styles mixed in with natural beauty. The day was warm and dry, so Dexter dog and I settled down for our picnic under the trees, before heading off to Kate's exhibition..
Next stop was to Morningside Gallery, approximately a 45 minute brisk walk through the suburbs. I was pleasantly surprised on arrival at the gallery to see two large Kate Bentley paintings in the window. Beautifully framed and positioned so as to attract maximum attention; these pictures did just that and drew me into the gallery. And what a treat there was in store for me!
Morningside Gallery had a calm aura and there was a sense of peace and tranquillity within, with subtle background music and plenty of space to admire the art on display. Adam, the curator, was friendly and happy to chat. The gallery was established 25 years ago and therefore had a large number of artists and followers.
‘Two Worlds’ - Kate’s imagination must have been on fire to produce such amazing works. These oil paintings were full of detail and interesting shapes. The use of bright translucent glazes created great depth. The gallery had worked with Kate to produce a short film, explaining her processes, her stories and environment playing a part in her work. My particular favourite was the Japanese Garden - subtle figures emerging from foliage; so much to see!
Now you can see some of Kate Bentleys exciting art work in Gallery Northwest at the much anticipated exhibition ‘Up Close and Personal’ from May 17-June 10. Hope to see you soon!
