Julie Hollis in her Studio

Julie is a contemporary landscape artist living in the beautiful Scottish region of Dumfries and Galloway. Born in Birmingham, England, Julie has lived in Scotland for the past 35 years.

She currently lives in The Artists’ Town of Kirkcudbright, a small and vibrant harbour town and popular tourist destination. Her work is inspired almost exclusively by the surrounding countryside and shorelines, but also by Julie's travels around Scotland in her little 1984 VW T25 camper van, which she has named 'The Escape Pod'. Julie uses a variety of media, and is keen to explore themes and techniques rather than focus on one genre.

Background

Now a full time artist, Julie previously owned an award winning gallery in Dumfries. After surviving a battle with breast cancer, Julie downsized and now works from her studio in Kirkcudbright town centre. This has allowed her to focus exclusively on her practice and development.
Prior to that, Julie was a primary school teacher specialising in helping children overcome barriers to learning, such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia and trauma.
Her teaching qualifications include a B.Ed (Hons) in Primary Learning and Art & Design, as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Inclusive Education.
Julie is also certified and insured as a Reiki Master Practitioner, Colour & Art Healer and Mindfulness Therapist.

Studio

Since 2022 Julie has worked from a small studio located in Kirkcudbright town centre, utilising the former shop and office space of a long disused Austin Rover garage.
The space is perfect for Julie's needs - big enough to display what she's doing and small enough to be cosy on a Scottish winter's day! It's a working studio and Julie can be found there on most days, but as it's not a shop Julie does not advertise regular opening hours.
As such, visitors are made very welcome on days when the open sign is displayed. Appointments to visit can be made, and are encouraged if it's a special visit.
